With so many baby boomer drivers retiring and few Millennials are willing to endure long periods away from home on cross country deliveries, it is now clear that theses jobs are now not being filled. THE SAFETY FACTOR

Industry safety officials are enforcing a requirement for all trucks to be equipped with electronic devices to ensure drivers comply with limits on how long they can drive without a break. This is causing some drivers to leave the business and reducing the number of trucks on the road at any given time.

Currently (2019) there is a shortage of over 51,000 drivers nationwide. By 2021 this number will rise to 100,000 or more. In the future driverless trucks will help. However, that solution is many years down the road, if ever.
